Application of diversified second curriculum activities in diabetes mellitus teaching

Objective To promote students to acquire the knowledge of diabetes, improve their application ability of theoretical knowledge and the ability of social activity, and enhance the comprehensive quality of students. Methods We carried out diversified second curriculum activities for sophomore in third clinical medicine department in Capital Medical University. Results The students who attended second curriculum activities acquired (17.82±1.72) scores while students who did not attended obtained (15.92±2.57) scores (t=2.302, P=0.026). All students considered this kind of teaching method innovative and this method could strengthen relative knowledge, patch shortage of knowledge. Conclusions The second curriculum activities provide a creative, displayed, practical and reflected platform, effectively inspired students′ interest on professional learning, develop their potential ability, and contribute to self-confidence and the sense of self-identity.
