Fabrication of Silver–2–Aminoterephthalic Acid Coordination Polymer‐Coated Fe3O4 for Effective Removal of Lead from Aqueous Media

A magnetic silver-containing coordination polymer was synthesized and its application as an adsorbent for removing lead ions more than 99% at optimum conditions from wastewater and seawater samples was developed. To characterize the silver–2–aminoterephthalic acid-functionalized Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles, various analyses including x-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, vibrating-sample magnetometer, dynamic light scattering and zeta potential analysis were performed. Batch adsorption experiments were carried out using a flame atomic absorption spectrometry system for determining the lead concentration. Effective parameters on removal efficiency, such as extraction time, sorbent amount and pH of sample solution were optimized by “one at a time” method. The adsorption conformed to a Langmuir adsorption isotherm with a maximum adsorption capacity of 31 mg g−1 during 15 min. The kinetic of adsorption was consistent with Pseudo-second-order model. The results showed that the sorbent has an appropriate ability to remove Pb2+ ions through a spontaneous and endothermic procedure.
