Simulation of the formation of thin zeolite coatings by direct synthesis from clear solutions

Abstract A simple model taking into account the nucleation and crystal growth of zeolite particles was used to simulate the formation of thin zeolite 4A coatings on different substrates. For stainless steel substrates, the properties of the simulated coatings were in good agreement with those of the actually prepared coatings. When quartz was used, inconsistencies were observed between the simulation and experimental results, possibly related to the dissolution of the quartz substrate and hence the disappearance of some of the nuclei formed on the substrate.
