Patient-Centered Design in a Connected Healthcare World: A Case Study

2019
Patient-centric healthcare solutions are changing the landscape of health care throughout the world. With the evolution of startup ecosystem and innovative solutions for public health, design is becoming the differentiating factor. Healthcare providers are focusing more on patient-centered designs to improve their offerings. From functionality to design aspects, medical devices are evolving faster for “healthcare users.” The medical device industries are now redesigning their products by incorporating elements of experience‐based design to enhance the value offered to their customers. Initiatives have been taken to reach remote patients through telemedicine and to develop user-friendly devices even for end users lacking the clinical know-how. Integration of design thinking into product development is enabling patients to efficiently use the devices, take error-free measurements with little training, and receive better treatment. This paper discusses the latest trends in medical device design for the “health users.”
