Microsurgical removal of giant pituitary adenomas via frontal interhemispheric combined subfrontal approach

2009
Objective To study the new approach-frontal interhemispheric combined sub frontal ap-proach for microsurgical dissection of giant pituitary adenomas, in order to improve radical removal rate of the tumor and decrease the complication and recurrent rate. Methods 37 cases of giant pituitary adenomas were micro surgically dissected with the new frontal interhemispheric combined sub frontal approach. Results 33 ca-ses were totally removed ,2 cases were subtotally removed and no death occurred 4 patiant without totally removal underwent radiotherapy 32 pationts were followed up for an average of 2. 8 years of whom 30 were able to work normally,2 could take care of themselves and 2 suffered from recurrence. Conclusion By using the approach, the tumors could be displayed maximally under microscope, choosing this approach can improve the rate of total tumor removal and can decrease the complication and recurrent rate.
