Eu+2 fluorescence in BaCl2

Abstract The Ba 1− x Eu x Cl 2 system was studied over wide ranges of x , particularly regarding the fluorescent emission of Eu 2+ . In addition to the commonly observed 5 d → 4 f band emission sharp line, f → f transitions were observed. Single crystals of Eu 2+ containing BaCl 2 were grown via the Czochralski technique and many of the optical properties, such as transmission, fluorescence, and excitation, were measured. X-ray and thermal parameters for the Ba 1− x Eu x Cl 2 system are also reported.
