Automated modification of the Ames test with COBAS Bact.

Abstract The automatic analyser for microbiology “COBAS Bact” from Roche, supplemented by a Hewlett-Packard 9816S is used to automate the Salmonella mutagenicity test, developed by Ames. More than 30 compounds were tested in this system and the results were shown to be in good agreement with those obtained with the standard Ames test.
