Deployment of a medium-band seismological station on the Piton de la Fournaise volcano in Reunion Island as part of the ANR Undervolc project (2009-2014). Its objective was to improve the understanding of volcanic processes such as the mechanism of volcanic disturbances, the propagation of dikes, the temporal evolution of eruptions, rockfall related to volcanic activity. Another objective was also to improve the prediction of volcanic eruptions and the mitigation of volcanic risks. The project took place on the active volcano (1 eruption per year on average) Piton de la Fournaise on Reunion Island. During this 3-year project, the scientists deployed a seismological network and a GPS network, both complementary to the permanent network of the Piton de la Fournaise Volcanological Observatory (OVPF). This operation was carried out thanks to the SISmob national park of land mobile seismological instruments, a specific action of the Resif national research infrastructure, dedicated to the observation and understanding of the structure and dynamics of the Internal Earth. Resif is based on high-tech observation networks, composed of seismological, geodetic and gravimetric instruments deployed in a dense manner throughout France. These data make it possible to study with high spatial and temporal resolution the deformation of the ground, surface and deep structures, seismicity on a local and global scale and natural hazards, and more particularly seismic hazards, on French territory. Resif is integrated into European (EPOS - European Plate Observing System) and global systems of instruments for imaging the Earth's interior as a whole and studying many natural phenomena.
