Kamusal Alan Bağlamında Ağ Toplumu ve Yeni Kamusal Alan Arayışı

Public sphere is a notion that can be dated back to ancient Greece. It is also related to bourgeois revolution that triggered collapse of feudalism and economical-political environment brought about by it. The public sphere was in effect at the end of the seventeenth century and during the eighteenth century. In 19th century  the notion “public sphere” was pushed into collapse by capitalist system what was a result of bougeois revolution originally. “The network society” is an outcome of information age. It has come up to the surface  as a result of swift improvement on information and communication technologies and it has brought a new perspective to the public sphere discussions on the other part. Additionally the notion “network society” has been named as “informational capitalism” by Manuel Castells. The information age is being regarded as the new icon of classical capitalism. In this age new media applications potential for forming a new public spehere has come to the centre of this discussions. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to present the connection between the notions mentioned above and to discuss the new media’s potential for constructing a new public sphere.
