Periodic variations of Auger energy maximum distribution following He2+ + H2 collisions: A complete analogy with photon interferences

2014
Abstract In this article, we present experimental evidence of a particular electron-interference phenomenon. The electrons are provided by autoionization of 2 l 2 l ′ doubly excited He atoms following the capture of H 2 electrons by a slow He 2+ incoming ion. We observe that the position of the energy maximum of the Auger structures oscillates with the detection angle. Calculation based on a simple model that includes interferences clearly shows that the present oscillations are due to Young-type interferences caused by electrons scattering on both H + centers.
