Alkaline cellulose solvents were compared in respect of their solubility and film strength properties for low DP (degree of polymerization) cotton linter, which was irradiated with electon beam with 20 kGy energy. NaOH/urea solvent gave very low solubility for 600 DP cotton linter. However, NaOH/urea/thiourea, NaOH/thiourea, and NaOH/urea/ZnO solvents gave high solubility (>99%) and films were prepared by those solvents. Both tensile strength and stretch of the films were the highest of all for the NaOH/urea/ZnO solvent case, but there was no clear differences in their crystallinities and micrographs between the films. Only the TGA degradation temperature of NaOH/urea/ZnO solvent case was higher than the others.
