Gyrotron noise and measurement of the ion temperature in a plasma

The possibility is discussed of using a gyrotron as a generator of probe radiation in a scheme to measure the ion temperature of a plasma in toroidal systems from the scattering of electromagnetic waves. The line shape of the gyrotron radiation is measured in the frequency range corresponding to the scattered signal. 4 refs., 1 fig.
