Hypertension in individuals with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus
1993
Early and effective antihypertensive treatment is believed by most investigators to significantly improve the prognosis of patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this article is to summarize three important areas that relate to hypertension and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus: (1) Is the development of hypertension in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus independent of the development of diabetic renal disease? (2) If renal disease is not the sole cause of hypertension in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, what is? (3) How can hypertension be prevented and treated in the adolescent and child with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus?
