Upon contact with antigen, T cells are activated to proliferate and to release factors that regulate B cell differentiation and also promote an inflammatory process. As discussed in previous chapters of this book, antigen has to be adsorbed and appropriately processed by accessory cells before being presented to T cells in the contest of autologous MHC products.
