The invention relates to a method for operating a surroundings sensor device (100) comprising the steps of: transmitting (S1) at least a first sound pulse (SP1) at a first frequency and at least a second sound pulse (SP2) on a second frequency by means of a transmitter device (30) of the surroundings sensor device (100), wherein a first burst duration of at least one first sound pulse (SP1) and a second burst duration of at least a second sound pulse (SP2) at least partially overlap in time; Detecting (S2) of the transmitted at least one first sound pulse (SP1) and of the emitted at least a second sound pulse (SP2) by means of a receiver device (20) of the surroundings sensor device (100); and determining environment data of the surroundings sensor device (100) based on the detected at least one first sound pulse (SP1) and the detected at least one second sound pulse (SP2) by a computing device (40) and operation of the surroundings sensor device (100) based on the determined environmental data.
