Good resolution measurement of the fission excitation curve of U238 by fast neutrons around 14 MeV

Abstract A measurement of the fission cross section for U 238 by fast neutrons has been made. The neutron energy was varied between 13.7 MeV and 14.8 MeV with a neutron energy resolution of ≈ 100 keV. A semiconductor detector was used as fission fragment detector. The fission cross section was found to be 1.3 b and to be almost independent of the energy of the bombarding neutrons.
