1P-342: Usage of flue gas to produce biodiesel with the application of heat-tolerant microalgae Chlorella sorokiniana

With the increased understanding of the global warming, the importance of the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology in preventing the release of CO2 became more apparent. In this study, we are looking into microalgae using CCS and its biodiesel conversion. The production of biodiesel from the microalgae biomass is promising work because of its environment-friendly stages. It uses daylight and flue gas, generated by burning of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and containing CO2, NOx, and SOx. Chlorella sorokiniana UTEX 2805 was selected to cultivate in outdoor flue gas emission source. The strain has high resistance to high temperature and grows when supplied with flue gas. Particularly, it shows a noticeable lipid accumulation without N source in summer. Due to its heat-tolerance, Chlorella sorokiniana is a prospective microalgae strain that can greatly contribute to the advance of the biodiesel production.
