The ‘pin and plaster technique’ for maintaining reduction after traumatic knee dislocations

1999
Traumatic knee dislocation is devastating. In a majority of knee dislocations both the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) are disrupted. Because of this extensive soft tissue disruption the knee is unstable even after anatomical reduction. Maintaining reduction can be a challenge given the complexity of these injuries. We describe a simple method to hold the knee reduced following a traumatic dislocation.
