QUASI-FREE PROTON-PROTON SCATTERING IN 1p-SHELL NUCLEI

1963
Abstract A distorted-wave analysis of (p, 2p) reactions on nuclei from the 1p-shell is performed by means of the impulse approximation and the semiclassical approximation. Results are presented for an incident proton energy of 170 MeV and in one case of 450 MeV and are compared with the existing experimental data. A discussion of the results is given, and it is shown that, in general, with harmonic oscillator wave functions the absolute magnitude of the differential cross section for the angular correlation distribution is reasonably well reproduced, but the shape of the angular correlation, which gives the (distorted) momentum distribution is in general better reproduced with exponential wave functions. A short discussion of the approximations involved follows, and the need for further work on (p, 2p) reactions is stressed.
