MAITRISE DU RISQUE INFECTIEUX EN CABINET D’ORTHODONTIE : LA SITUATION DANS LA VILLE DE RABAT

2014
Objectives: our study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of health professionals practicing in orthodontics on the steps of the sterilization cabinet. Materials and methods: a questionnaire was distributed to 100 firms in Rabat or exercises orthodontics partial or exclusive basis with participation rate of 60% for practitioners. Results: 75% of practitioners believe that the autoclave is the single most effective means of sterilization. On packaging, the majority of orthodontists (77,8%) consider packing material sterilization is mandatory. On soiled instruments, 61,4% of orthodontists transvases immediately after their use in a tray of pre-disinfection and 83.3% reported always follow the manufacturer's recommendations (soaking time, dilution ...). Manual cleaning is still the most used (83.1%) as well as the steam sterilizer (81.4%). For sterilization, 71.61% of orthodontists check the validity of sterilization cycles, but only 45% routinely sterilize orthodontic pliers after each patient. Conclusion: A real awareness of the importance of the sterilization process in mastering the risk of infection is made with orthodontists. Training activities or information could be implemented to improve some process steps. A comprehensive survey extending all Moroccan orthodontists is necessary to have an overall vision of sterilization practices in our country.
