Oral leiomyoma: Case report

1990
Abstract Leiomyoma of the oral cavity is infrequently found because of the scarcity of smooth muscle in the mouth. A review of the literature yielded only 124 cases reported from 1884 to 1987. A new case of primary leiomyoma of the lower buccal sulcus is presented. Although the recurrence rate has been very low, wide surgical excision is recommended because of the high incidence of malignancy of this tumor in the oral cavity contrasted with other parts of the body.
