According to the lateral water inlet water intake structure, the retaining wall of an existing part of a river channel is dismantled, the water intake structure which is integrally connected with retaining walls of other water channels is constructed, the diversion port is formed in the side wall, close to the water channel, of the water intake structure body, and the grid is arranged outside the diversion port, so that influences on water channel navigation caused by the fact that the diversion port stretches out of the water channel can be avoided, and larger floating objects floating on the water surface can be intercepted. At the same time, the oil separation weir plate which is connected with the top plate is arranged inside the structure so as to remove floating oil in the water channel, and the lateral water inlet water intake structure is simple in structure, convenient to use and high in practicability.
