Video content transmission in a public safety system model based on flying Ad-hoc networks

2018
The main objective of this paper is to support and improve public safety services, most specifically video surveillance for public manifestations, through a system model based on Flying Ad Hoc NETworks (FANET) and Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET). Multiple Paths OLSR (MP-OLSR) routing protocol is used for video data forwarding to a fixed infrastructure capable of video streaming, data processing and service provisioning. The proposed system design could improve the prevention of life threatening events and also help the rescuing teams to coordinate and handle the required public safety measures. The architecture is composed of three main modules: the FANET & MANET networks used for video forwarding and the central management system. A proof of concept based on MP-OLSR routing protocol for efficient video transmission is given.
