Criticality assessment for CANDU nuclear fuel in accident conditions during road transport
2019
The purpose of this work is to present the results of a study regarding the behaviour of fresh CANDU nuclear fuel immersed in light water (H2O) following a road accident scenario. The criticality simulations were made using KENO-V.a code, one of the computational tools provided by SCALE 6.2.1. The study evaluates the criticality potential, namely the effective multiplication factor keff for two types of nuclear fuel, formed out of fuel bundles containing 37 and 43 fuel elements, with the following enrichments 0.9%, 1.1% and 1.3% U235.
