Run time analysis of an Audio Graphic Equalizer for portable industrial directional sound systems in industrial usage

2019
An audio graphic equalizer is an essential component for high quality direction speakers systems frequently used in industries as it can manipulate the signal frequencies in order to improve sound quality. It provides a way to achieve a cleaner sound as each listening environment can affect how the sound is being perceived. In this paper, an Audio Graphic EQualiser (GEQ) algorithm is designed and evaluated using a parametric Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter in a TMS320C5505 DSP platform to eliminate the amplification of phase distortion. The contribution of this paper is a novel AGEQ algorithm that minimise the execution time and save overall computational cost in a resource constraint system. The AGEQ algorithm is evaluated and tuned using different design and parameters to achieve the optimal performance. From the result, three band mono tone AGEQ is successfully implemented and analysed with 700 filter taps in a fully optimised DSP hardware.
