Laser beam scattering from metallic sphere embedded in aerosol cloud

2001
The problem of laser beam scattering by a conducting sphere immersed in a medium of aerosols is studied. The modal expansion solution of the scattered field produced from the scattering of a laser beam incident on a perfectly conducting sphere has been considered. The Mie scattering of the laser beam from a cloud of uniform distribution is calculated. Different particle size distribution models have been considered and the particle size distributions of three different types of aerosols have been measured. Then, the effective optical depths of typical aerosols are computed. The numerical results of scattering from a cloud having a distribution based on the Diermendjian particle size distribution model is obtained.
