Error Control in Scalable Video Coding

2010
Scalable Video Coding(SVC) is developed by JVT(Joint Video Team) of ISO/IEC and ITUT VCEG.It is an extension standard of H.264/AVC.SVC,through the scalabilities on temporal resolution, spatial resolution and quality, adapts to heterogeneous network structure and different requirements of terminal user on video resolution, frame rate or quality. It is one of the best solutions at present.Due to the degradation, error and packet loss in channel transmission, error control turns out to be an important work,so two useful techniques——Error Resilience and Error Concealment——are introduced into Scalable Video Coding. Some of these two are inherited from H.264 while the others are developed according to the characters of SVC itself. This paper presents some typical methods and their contributions.
