MUSE: Design and Status of the Data Reduction Pipeline

We briefly summarize instrument properties of the future second generation VLT instrument MUSE, a giant integral field spectrograph, and describe the layout of the data it will provide. The current design of the data reduction pipeline is presented along with a project timeline.
