Metabolismo de la glucosa en el habitante de la altura: Replanteando evidencias

2008
Palabras clave: glucosa, insulina, metabolismo, altura, hipoxia SUMMARY It is well known that permanent high altitude residents and natives have a lower basal glycemia compared with those who live at sea level. Recently, we have demonstrated that the lower glycemia at high altitude is maintained even during prandial states. Nevertheless, to date, the mechanisms responsible of such differences are not completely understood. In this review, we discuss in depth the data obtained from studies focused on glucose metabolism in subjects who live at high altitude.
