A direct human-robot communication for robot service use based on gesture recognition

In this paper, we discuss a pattern recognition of human gestures by the robot. The frame images of the gestures by a hand are taken into an image processing system using a CCD camera and identified in the recognition system. We discuss the details of extraction of hand's images, recognition of the hand's motion by coding the trajectory and comparing them with prescribed basic patterns in the data base filing system. Finally, the entire recognizing process and experimental results are discussed.
