Mineral Explorations by Landsat Image Ratios

2007
The paper approaches the opportunity of using medium and high spatial resolution satellite images to study the mineral structure of geographic areas. Spectral remote sensing is a tool that one has to aid in targeting a mineral deposit. The paper presents an efficient way to detect the areas which can contain mineral deposits, using ratio bands on Landsat ETM+ images. This method is going to be integrated in the MedioGrid environment. The resulted information is usually combined with other available data such as geological, geophysical, and geochemical, and should be interpreted in the context of the geologic environment. The approach uses various band combinations and ratios to detect mineral deposits. Mineral exploration using satellite imagery has been very successful in arid and semi-arid areas.
