Pt/TiO 2 granular photocatalysts for hydrogen production from aqueous glycerol solution: Durability against seawater constituents and dissolved oxygen

2018
Abstract We examined the impact of seawater constituents and dissolved oxygen (DO) on granular Pt/TiO 2 photocatalytic reactions producing hydrogen from water with glycerol as a sacrificial agent. Hydrogen production halved in seawater compared to pure water, mainly due to flocculation of the granules, and activity recovered by deflocculation and/or lowering the Na + concentrations. The activity of the settled granular photocatalyst was higher than that of the suspended powder photocatalyst under anoxic conditions. The decrease in activity was small up to the DO value of pure oxygen bubbling, which shows the effective inhibition of oxygen reduction and thermal hydrogen oxidation.
