Preparation of transparent yttrium-aluminium garnet doped with neodymium or chromium by water casting ceramic films

The purpose of this work was to produce layered, translucent ceramic materials based on yttrium aluminium garnet doped with neodymium or chromium. The work has proved that it is possible to obtain transparent/translucent ceramics by the aqueous tape-casting technique. Ceramic foils of different chemical compositions can be successfully laminated, which leads to transparent layered ceramic composite materials, when the sintering conditions are properly selected.
