SCATTERING OF 1960 EV NE+ FROM AN AL SURFACE
1998
Abstract Energy spectra of backscattered projectile ions for 1960 eV Ne + incident on a polycrystalline Al surface show an inelasticity of 45 ± 3 eV (86 ± 4 eV) in binary collisions with Al atoms for Ne + (Ne ++ ). These inelasticities are attributed to simultaneous excitation of two Ne 2p electrons of neutralized Ne 0 and surviving Ne + leading to the formation of Ne ** and Ne ++* which decay into the final Ne + and Ne ++ , respectively. A well distinct peak due to double scattering is present in both singly and doubly charged ion spectra.
