Dry cooling design characteristics of a large power plant. [330-MW Wyodak Station in NE Wyoming]

The new Wyodak Station in the northeast corner of Wyoming, now under construction and scheduled for operation by May 1, 1978, is rated at 330 MW and will be the largest air-cooled unit in the world. The shortage of water in the area is so severe that extreme measures were required to obtain water for other plant uses, e.g., steam cycle makeup, ash sluicing, etc.; the problem was solved by contracting for the total effluent from the sewage treatment plant of the town of Gillette, 5 mi. away. The principal decisions that remained after plant siting are discussed here; these concerned sizing, configuration, and supply of the air-cooled system. (LMT)
