Wave separation by an oblique polarization filter

Our propose is to illustrate the application of efficient oblique polarization filter (OPF) to eliminate the ground-roll that contains no useful information and to perform a wavefield separation of up-going waves and down-going waves in Vertical Seismic Profiling (VSP) data. On this paper, we show that polarization filter can be applied as one of the first step in wavefield separation processing. The method works either on linear wave polarization (in VSP case), or on elliptical polarization (in surface waves case). Efficient results on example will be shown for both wavefield separations on VSP and ground-roll removal case.
