X-ray imaging of electron cyclotron heated CLEO plasma by tangential projection

1986
X-ray images of electron cyclotron heated Tokamak plasma were taken through a tangential port using a tandem microchannel plate. Tomographic image reconstruction using an algorithm ART was performed for high q Tokamak plasmas heated with a 60 GHz gyrotron at the second harmonic resonance. This clearly shows an outwardly shifted plasma core corresponding to the effects of high beta . The interaction zone of soft runaway electrons with a limiter-like shield over a poloidal coil array was detected. Additionally, the optimization of the vertical position of the hot core was performed by observing these images, producing the maximization of stored energy. The rejection of hard X-rays, which would significantly lower the image contrast, was obtained by temporal grating.
