Continental-Oceanic Boundary Deep Structure in a Shear Margin: Western Main Transform, Offshore Veracruz, Southern Gulf of Mexico

2009
Gravity, magnetic, and heat-flow data suggest that the western main transform shear margin is associated with a transform deformation zone having considerable lateral extent. Inboard of this zone lays a continental crust, whereas outboard to the east of the large gravity anomaly associated with this structure lays an oceanic crust. The basement complex in the deformation zone is likely to be a heavily modified continental crust intruded with magnetic and higher density crustal material.
