A new method for inducing quasi-phase-matched interactions
2004
In this paper the theory behind a novel scheme for achieving quasi-phase-matched interactions is presented. Phenomenological calculations of the optical nonlinearity are extended to include acoustically induced strain. It is shown that the strain wave induces a periodic fluctuation in the second order nonlinear susceptibility. Order of magnitude calculations indicate that the resulting nonlinearity is proportional to the square of the acoustic power. Practical implementations are discussed.
