Theoretical investigation of dielectric behavior in the region of Freedericksz transition in antiferroelectric liquid crystals

Abstract We have studied the Freedericksz transition in antiferroelectric liquid crystals (AFLCs) utilizing the Landau–Ginzburg (LG) equation. We discussed low frequency in-phase mode and high frequency anti-phase mode in the region of Freedericksz transition. Freedericksz transition has taken an effective role for a finite dimensional material. Dielectric characteristics have been investigated in detail both in in-phase and anti-phase motions by considering the Freedericksz transition. We theoretically noticed the non-uniform rotations of azimuthal angles of molecules between two adjacent layers of AFLCs due to the application of an external field higher than the threshold voltage.
