Synthesis and characterization of solable β-and β,β′-substituted polythiophenes

Four derivatives of substituted polythiophenes(Pt) such as poly β-Dodecylthiophene,Polyβ,β′-Didodecylthiophene,Polyβ-Octadecylthiophene and Polyβ,β′-Dioctadecylthiophene have been synthesized using iron(Ⅲ) as catalyst.The monomers and polymers have been characterized by 1H-NMR and elemental analysis.The high rield undoped polymers have been obtained by reduction with hydrazine hydrate.All polymers exhibit excellent solubility in common organic solvents.Optical properties of the polymers have been studied.It was found out that the four polymers have higher optical activity in chloroform solution.The polymers absorption light is from near UV to blue and their emitted light is from green to yellow green.
