Realistic Modeling, Analysis and Animated 3D Visualization for MEG Studies

2000
With the availability of new analysis techniques and visualization capabilities for biomagnetic studies, it is possible to improve the significance and reliability of the results. For example, it is nowadays common to solve the biomagnetic forward problem modeling the head as a sphere: with such a model the computations are easy and fast. Per contra, its simplicity brings some unavoidable inaccuracies, that can be avoided using a more realistic head model. A physically plausible shape can be obtained from anatomical MRI data, and the corresponding computations simplified using the Boundary Element Method (BEM).
