Characteristics of Coastal Circulation in the Semi-Enclosed Seto Inland Sea Using a Regional Atmosphere-Ocean Model

2004
Accurate coastal weather and ocean forecasting are essential to ensure economic well-being and public safety in coastal regions. In this study, a three-dimensional mesoscale atmosphere-ocean model, was developed by coupling the Advanced Regional Prediction System (ARPS) with the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) to provide atmosphere-ocean prediction. The model was used to study coastal land-air-sea interaction in the Seto Inland Region, western part of Japan. This paper describes characteristic feature of the coastal circulation in the Seto Inland Sea. The coastal circulation in the Seto Inland Sea is explained by the evolution and migration of the orographic wind system.
