AN ADULT CASE OF INGUINAL HERNIA OPERATED ON WITH A USE OF SOLVENT-DEHYDRATED AND FREEZE-DRIED HUMAN FASCIA LATA ALLOGRAFT

1997
We performed an operation for inguinal hernia in an adult who had a thin inguinal canal floor. The canal floor was repaired by using solvent-dehydrated and freeze-dried human fascia lata allograft. This is the first operation by anterior approach procedure in which human fascia lata allograft was used. Same operative procedure as Lichtensteins was employed. The patient had a good postoperative course and no complications. The patient complained of only few unwellness or tension at the operated site. No recurrence has been noted as of 8 months after the operation. Human fascia lata allograft has enough strength as a prosthesis for inguinal hernia repair, and that is easily handled. This material has a such quite advantage as finally this material completely changes for patient's tissue. We believe that fascia lata is a useful medical material for the hernioplasty of inguinal hernia.
