Application of Household Microwave Presence Detector and Its IC Module Design

In future households,detection of the presence and status of occupants will be an essential issue for the intelligent control unit.By regulating the operation of the lighting and air-conditioning systems as well as other home appliances,energy saving can be achieved together with better life.Compared to commercially available presence detectors with ultra-sonic or infrared sensors,radar based detectors have better accuracy,smaller form factor,and also enable chip-level integration with the state-of-the-art VLSI technology.This work addresses this prospect by investigating the application scenario of indoor microwave presence detector and the system specifications.A 60 GHz receiver front-end IC is designed in BiCMOS technology to prove the feasibility of low-cost miniature indoor radar presence detectors.
