Cytochrome P450 Isoenzyme Induction Pattern in Rats Treated with Peroxisome Proliferators and Classical Inducers

1994
Cytochromes P-450 are a superfamily of enzymes catalyzing the oxidation of numerous endogenous compounds (fatty acids, steroids, eicosanoids) and exogenous chemicals (drugs, pesticides, environmental pollutants). Based on DNA sequence homology, this superfamily can be further divided into enzyme families from which four families, CYP1, CYP2, CYP3 and CYP4, are involved in foreign compound metabolism and toxicity [6, 13, 20].
