Automatic Vertebra Fracture & Classification using Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry

2021
Vertebral column plays a vital role in the human body: which protects the spinal cord, gives hardening to the body, and connects muscles of the human body. Vertebral fractures cause damage in the progression of the vertebral bone occurs due to injury, osteoporosis, or accidents. Automatic analysis of vertebral fracture is a significant contribution in medical field. The objective of this project is to develop an image processing application for an efficient detection and classification of vertebral fractures. In proposed methodology Dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) images are used for vertebral fracture analysis, undergo preprocessing techniques, then after detection of vertebras the processed image will be further classify into fracture type: wedge, biconcave, or a crush fracture. This system is developed in OpenCV C Sharp as the programming language for image processing and user interface development. Results of proposed system have accuracy of 75% for vertebras detection and 60% for classification of fracture.
