Isolation and characterization of Hantaan-serotype virus PS-6 strain

Objective Isolation of Hantaan serotype virus strain that could be provided as a better candidate strain for bivalent inactivated vaccine. Methods One strain was isolated from the sera of HFRS patients of Xi′an. The serotype of the virus was then examined by serial McAbs, PRNT, RT PCR and sequencing analysis of part M segment. Results One strain of the virus, designated as PS 6, was successfully isolated from 17 sera of HFRS patients, and was identified as Hantaan serotype virus by the methods mentioned above. Conclusions PS 6 was one with high multiplicity and good antigenicity and its immunoserum had better neutralizing activity to Hantaan serotype viruses isolated from epidemic areas. PS 6 is a potential candidate strain for bivalent or multivalent inactivated vaccine.
