Electrodeposition of polythiophene from bisthiophene onto iron

1993
Abstract Smooth, coherent and well adherent polythiophene coatings on iron could be galvanostatically electrodeposited from 0.1 M bisthiophene in the presence of 0.1 M KNO 3 or oxalic acid in partially aqueous systems. A cosolvent like acetonitrile or dimethylformamide was necessary due to the limited solubility of the monomer. Thicknesses of 2 μm are typical for these coatings, which are of interest as corrosion inhibiting polymer layers.
