High-speed liquid scintillator techniques for calorimetry and triggering

1990
Liquid scintillators with nanosecond temporal properties may be desired for Superconducting Super Collider/Large Hadron Collider high-luminosity calorimetry and triggering. The temporal characteristics of liquid scintillators have been improved with the addition of quenchers for solvent/fluor systems which optimize the Forster transfer, suppressing the triplet states and radiative decay of the solvent. General liquid scintillator property optimization for high-rate calorimetric and trigger counter properties, especially in terms of the hydrogen content, is briefly discussed. Present tests of new hydrogen-free liquid scintillators are presented. >
